Roots and Roses

Drawing is my root system. When I draw regularly after a period of not drawing, I’m always amazed at how centered and relaxed I feel again.

My time suddenly seems longer, my emotions settle, and I know what I need to do next for my greatest good.

It’s so easy to step away from drawing to tend to urgent problems, and then go on to the next thing and the next. Then eventually I’m not drawing anymore at all and I’m miserable.

I want roses but blossoms wilt from neglected roots.
