Rosinski\" width=\"200\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.toadhollowstudio.com\/wp_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/draw-flower-circle-1.jpg?w=200&amp;ssl=1 200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.toadhollowstudio.com\/wp_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/draw-flower-circle-1.jpg?resize=125%2C125&amp;ssl=1 125w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 85vw, 200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To draw a four petal flower as seen from the top, lightly draw a circle, or draw around a large coin (I used a quarter), and then make crossed lines that divide the circle into four sections.<\/p>\n<p>I made my drawing darker than it needs to be so you can see it better.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3495 size-full\" title=\"Flower Petals C. Rosinski\" width=\"200\" height=\"195\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Draw petals around each quarter line, as I have done.<\/p>\n<p>Finish by erasing the circle and crossed lines, and then add a few dots with the tip of the pencil to create stamens at the center of the flower.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3496 size-full\" title=\"Draw Oval And Divide C. Rosinski\" width=\"200\" height=\"191\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To draw the same flower seen from a side angle, draw an oval and add crossed lines as done before.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3497 size-full\" title=\"Foreshortened Flower Petals C. Rosinski\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.toadhollowstudio.com\/wp_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/draw-flower-oval-2.jpg?resize=200%2C191\" alt=\"Foreshortened Flower Petals C. Rosinski\" width=\"200\" height=\"191\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When you draw petals around these quarter lines, the one that &#8220;comes at&#8221; you, will be short. That&#8217;s called &#8216;foreshortening.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The petal on the opposite side is also shortened, since these two petals are on the same plane in the drawing.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3498 size-full\" title=\"Move Center For Angled Flower C. Rosinski\" width=\"200\" height=\"209\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The flowers you just drew are flat, and the petals of most flowers angle up. To draw this effect, you&#8217;re going to draw in three dimensions.<\/p>\n<p>This time draw the oval again, but make the center mark a little off to one side. Then connect the\u00a0 quarter lines to it again.<\/p>\n<p>After you draw the petals this time, the flower looks as though it drops downward in the center. (This may be a little hard to visualize.)<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3499 size-full\" title=\"Move Center Below Oval C. Rosinski\" width=\"200\" height=\"123\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To increase the three-dimensional effect, move the center mark farther below the oval.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><\/div>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3500 size-full\" title=\"Three Dimensional Flower C. Rosinski\" width=\"200\" height=\"119\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As you can see, when the petals are added, the center of the flower drops below the center of the oval, and the flower looks three-dimensional.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4660\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.toadhollowstudio.com\/wp_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/simple-flowers-rosinski.jpg?resize=300%2C208\" alt=\"Simple flower shapes C. Rosinski\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/>You can clearly see how the petals of this daisy I sketched point to the center of an oval shape. You can see part of the oval leftover on the petals.<\/p>\n<p>The circle with the center point is a tool to help you visualize and draw simple flowers at different angles.
