Drawing from the heart is the name of this blog and I talk about it a lot here. I was reminded of it again by this beautiful ice storm that I can’t take photos of. Even if I could capture what I see with my camera, I think I would still do my art the way I do, with pencil and paper. I have to slow down to draw. I have to take the time to touch every part of the scene with my pencil. Creating what I see and adding what I feel to it, is a magical experience. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to catch the glitter and glory of that ice storm exactly as it was, and I guess I don’t really want to. I want to draw my feeling about the beauty I saw that day more than I want to recreate the scene exactly as it was. That’s the very heart of art, I believe, when the artist shows you what’s in her heart expecting all the normal differences between people to dissolve in a ecstasy of the understanding of beauty.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
