I thought I&#8217;d show you the drawing as it progresses. I&#8217;m using a very smooth Bristol Board (Strathmore 400 Series Plate Finish) and it&#8217;s a little tricky to work with. Whenever I use this board, I always spend a lot of time doing general fills with tight hatching in several layers. It doesn&#8217;t have much of a grain so I have to take my time and add layer after layer of hatching until it reaches the value I&#8217;m trying for. You can see some of my hatch marks in the close-up. I like using this paper, even though it&#8217;s challenging to work with, because I can create very gentle looking &#8220;washes&#8221; of graphite on it.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m creating the texture on the flowerpot with several layers of hatching gone over with a brush. Then I&#8217;m using a kneaded eraser to lift out highlights. I&#8217;ll probably leave the spilled dirt rough textured and looking a lot like it does now.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll post the next steps in days to come.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m drawing an illustration for an article I&#8217;ve written.
